Section 8 Mainstream Voucher Program
Website: http://www.hud.gov/offices/divisions/ffmd

The Mainstream Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is a federally funded housing assistance program that expands access to safe, decent, affordable housing for low-income households (families of 1 or more) in which the head-of household or their spouse has a mental, physical, or developmental disability. Recipients of a Section 8 voucher are entitled to rent assistance, requiring them to pay only 1/3 of their monthly income on rent. After an individual is granted a voucher, they are given 60 days to find an apartment that is priced no more than 20% over fair market value, as determined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (see listing below).

Check your telephone directory for your local Housing Authority or community housing organizations. You will be able to apply through one of them. The website listed above is a question and answer page on the Mainstream Program. It is geared mainly toward housing agencies, disability organizations, and landlords looking to provide housing under the program. I include it for you in the hopes that you may find it helpful should your search for Mainstream housing in your area prove to be more difficult than anticipated.
